#DignifiedMenstruation for #SchoolHealthNurse, #MinistryofHealthNepal

Menstrual Discrimination practiced by School Health Nurse originated from Bhaktapur, Nuwakot, Ramechapp, Rasuwa, Rukum, Saptari and Sidhupalchowk. Total 24 nurses participated in the session of the “Dignified Menstruation” at the School Health Nurse Program on April 27, 2022 at Patan Hospital. 23 participants out of 24 has experienced a different types of menstrual discrimination. One participant from the Nuwakot, shared her experience of not following the rules of untouched, mobility during her menstruation. The following restrictions were gathered from the participants which they shared by writing in the separate paper. 1. Feeling shamed, not allowed to have nutritious food. 2. Kept in a separate house for 6 days, not allowed to touch and see the male members of family, sunlight 3. Feeling of afraid, sad, crying, anxious 4. Prohibited from free mobility to kitchen, temple 5. Used separate bed and utensils 6. Heavy bleeding, severe pain in stomach, waist 7. Washed used clothes pad by hiding 8. Took daily bath till 7 days 9. Problem in maintaining hygiene 10. Not showed face to other members of family • Problem of water management, waste management • Girls feel shame to talk about the menstruation and ask for the menstrual pad • Lack of quality menstrual pad • Unusual behavior of male student at classroom while talking about menstruation • Girls feel hesitated to go school during menstruation, • No rest area • Teasing the girls who are menstruating The feeling and essence of Dignified Menstruation seems to be very important for the schools management and community people. Menstrual Discrimination In Madesh

  1. Joanne Frappier, retired from Federal Government of Canada, Coach for Change Management and Philanthropist, Samir Pariyar, Coordinator for Dignified Menstruation Campaign Nepal and Radha Paudel made a week road field trip. It was started from April 14 and ended in 20th April 2022. The route was from Kathmandu to  Janakapur via Sindhuli road, Lalbandhi, Sarlahi, Kaliya Bara, Bharatpur, and Madi Chitwan, Gaidakot, Nawalpur, Pad factory Chitwan and Devghat in Tanahun and Kathmandu.

Dignified Menstruation Learning center

 Radha Paudel Foundation welcomes to all visitors, interns, researchers who are passionate to dignified menstruation and its various aspects. These are the few examples only. 

Menstruation is learned from 4-9 years among Youths, New York, USA

 These are the students who are studying in grade 10 and 11 in New York, USA. They are in Nepal as a youth ambassadors for Maya Gold Foundation. 

Radha Spent about two hours with them to discuss the urgency and importance of dignified menstruation at global level. They knew something about menstruation at the age of 4, 5, 6,7, 8 and 9 years from their family members, book, movie. The first reaction was surprised, shocked, confused, scared, bored, indifferent. They also did not discussed openly about menstruation.

Menstrual Discrimination in Godavari Municipality, Lalitpur District

These are the pictures from Godavari Municipality of Lalitpur district. Regardless of their caste, class, and education, they have been practicing various forms of menstrual restrictions; no participation in any religious activities, not allow to cook or enter in to kitchen, not allow to touch source of water supply, separate bed, hiding others or own's dark room without exposure with male members of the family (first menstruation), washing and drying of menstrual clothes separately, not allow to have citrus foods/fruits, no talk about menstruation at home, or family members, silence towards menstruation, matter of shyness and sexuality, not a serious issue to discuss at school, at local government. They also do not know about the menstruation itself. 
Had discussed about physiology of menstruation, products including their pros and cones, constitutional rights.
