Rt. President Bidhya Devi Bhandari |
The poor network connection put
me in more pressure due to not able to connecting with friends so I was too
much scared on Rt. President Bidhya Bhandari’s Janakpur visit for Bibaha
Panchami due to potential tragedies while I was on the way back to Kathmandu
from my two-week independent trip of eastern Terai Dec 16, 2015. Finally, I knew that there was no any human casualty
at all. I felt relieved because shading blood in conflict is most dangerous, already
50 people died at the name of Madhes protest 2015. Because I have observed that
the situation was beyond control of leaders, the sentiment of people was
stretching and increasing depression across all age people. Meanwhile, I
constantly getting message of counter preparation from both sides.
Unfortunately, the Janakpur failed to demonstrate her wisdom as people are
thinking culturally and historically by accusing President’s presence as
impurity, bad luck etc. More
importantly, Janakpur missed the opportunity to respect her state’s head and a woman and mother. I literally shocked.
The situation was more tragic due
to spreading the impurity and misshapen in Janakpur through social and other
media. Everyone so furious and accused to Madhes people, leaders and protest.
The UML’s sister’s organizations, leaders and supporters condemned by press
release, sit in protest and few NGO/CSOs followed the same after 5 days of incident.
Surprisingly, didn’t find the voice from the democrats’ side except few ones.
There is no doubt that there was
violation of human right of a woman and representative institution of entire
nation. But the nature of act associated with political links; i) people are
getting so frustrated due to more than four months protest, ii) the UML
recently decided to interface with Madhes people and many abusive statements
are constantly throwing up from UML’s side including Prime minister and iii)
the president Bidhya Bhandari was belong with UML before resume the presidency.
More importantly, this incident has
taught few other perspectives, i) status of social transformation: in about 60
years development discourse, the mind set of people was full with like about
3000 BC so much to do for human right, peace building and empowerment. It also
demands to develop or change the traditional ways of reaching out people. In
this connection, at immediate purpose, ignorance of such news by media and
activist would be best for cultivating culture of peace, ii) Structure of
protest: Unlike Maoist protest, Madhes protest is composed of all forms of
people in relation to caste, class, region, religion, political interest and ideology,
who are living in Madhes. In this connection, the people who are demanding
non-secular country or any radical voice could join in protest and do as an
opportunity. In short, Madhes protest is contradict with Maoist protest, and iii)
feeling of isolation and stateless: due
to more than four months protest, the general public were feeling stateless and
isolated. Anybody can attempt wrong things in such situation.
By considering all facts and
experience, the meaningful dialogue is only one means to settle conflict that
Nepal should learned from 12 years Maoist conflict and other many countries
globally. There could be many ways to criticise, condemn and defend but the
meaningful dialogue is only one permanent solution for bringing peace and
prosperity. Thus, all political parties, their sister organizations, media,
human right institutions and individuals should speak up urgently to put
pressure for meaningful dialogue. The President, Bidhya Bhandari was used due
to immature decision of government. A person
could born at hill or Terai, as a man or woman, as black or white etc. or it is
not choice of an individual so no one has right to discriminate and everyone
obligate to cultivate the culture of peace no matter who is the person, from where and what is doing. It is called Miteri, a mutual love and respect beyond marriage and blood regardless of class, caste, gender, region, religion etc. Each of us who love Nepal can speak and stand up for meaningful
dialogue instead of blaming, shattering, pulling, pushing and all. Because
peace everyone’s business and process.
